54 ANNUAL REPORT At the First Examination Nestor Isidore Charles Tirard obtained the Exhibition and Gold Medal in Physiology Histology and Comparative Anatomy At the Second Examination Andrew Duncan obtained Gold Medal in Medicine Gold Medal in Obstetric Medicine and Honours in Forensic Medicine At the Examination Iohn Alexander Cockburn obtained the Gold Medal the highest distinction conferred by the University upon Graduates in Medicine The Council are gratified to announce that the Physio- logical Laboratory alluded to in the last report is now com- pleted and they believe that in its fittings and general arrangements it will compare advantageously with any similar laboratory in Great Britain or elsewhere The Dis- secting Room has also been greatly improved at considerable cost Several changes in the Staff have taken place since the last report Dr Garrod the eminent Professor of Materia Medica and Therapeutics and one of the Physicians to King's College Hospital has been compelled to resign in consequence of the pressure of private practice after having discharged with great ability and zeal his duties at the College and Hospital for more than twelve years On his retirement the Council to mark their appreciation of Dr Garrod's valuable services appointed him one of the Consulting Physicians to King's College Hospital and elected him an Honorary Fellow of King's College The Council also received with great regret the resignation of Professor Rymer Jones the oldest Professor in the College who had filled the Chair of Com- parative Anatomy for the long period of thirty-eight years
