annual report 53 St John's College Cambridge 4th Wrangler Proxime Accessit for Natural Science Scholar- ship at Trinity College Cambridge Clothworker's Exhibition for Physical Science at the University of Cambridge since ap- pointed Assistant Demonstrator of Chem- istry in the same University -In the Medical Department the Council have to announce with regret but without surprise that the increas in the number of Students which was so marked feature in the reports of the last few years has not been sustained the numbers having fallen from 164 last year to 151 this year This decrease however has certainly not arisen from any want of efficiency in the working of the Department which was on the whole never more satisfactory The Council refer it entirely to the unfortunate controversy which attracted much attention last year between the Committee of Management of the Hospital and the Council of St John's House in reference to the Nursing Department That con- troversy has been settled by au arbitration commanding the greatest public confidence and the working of the Hospital under new agreement with St John's House being now most satisfactory the Council hope that thiu temporary drawback having been removed the numbers of the Department will again show steady advance The distinctions gained by present and former Students during the past year have been numerous and some of high character The following may be mentioned University of Cambridge At Hie Examination Alexander was placed First in the First Class in Botany University of London At the Preliminary Scientific Examination Arthur Robsrt Wya Sedge ield obtained Honours in Chemistry Scott Sedgwick Fen ton
