hi ANNUAL REPORT -The Evening Classes although diminished in numbers have in no way declined in usefulness and efficiency There are at present in this Department 488 Students almost exactly the same number as in 1872-3 The Special Prizes given by Mr Duncan and Mr Matheson for the encouragement of the study of Commerce and Political Economy by the Right Honourable Lord Selborne for the study of Law by the Gilbart trustees and the London Joint Stock Bank in connection with the Lectures on Banking have been continued and two additional prizes for Banking have been given by the National Provincial Bank The Council again express their thanks to the donors both for the gifts themselves and the recognition of the work of the Evening Classes which they imply -The School still continues to advance in numbers and has now 558 boys on its rolls as against 521 at the time of the last Report The Council are as thoroughly satisfied with the tone and efficiency of the School as with its increase of numbers and again express their warmest acknowledgments to the Head Master and his Assistants The increase of numbers has rendered it necessary to increase the accommodation and the Council have been able to make this increase at moderate cost by taking in portion af the gymnasium to form two new Class-Rooms bile still leaving space abundantly sufficient for gymnastic exercises The Council announce with very sincere regret the sudden ath of the Rev Rust Master of the Lower School to whose exertions under the direction of the Head Master much of the increase of the School is due They quote here the resolution passed at the time expressive of their sense of the serious loss sustained by the Institution That the Council desire to put on record their sincere regret at the loss which the College has sustained in the death of the Rev George Rust Master of the Middle and Lower School
