MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 189 10 Materia Medica and Therapeutics In this Course an account is given of the natural history chemical composition and mode of action of the Substances used as Medicines The Lectures are illustrated by Experiments by the Drugs and Pharmaceutical Preparations presented to King's College by the Society of Apothecaries by the late Sir Henry Halford Bart by Messrs Savory and Moore and by other liberal friends of the College Tbe Museum is further enriched by tbe collection of the late Professor Royle and has an exten- sive series of coloured drawings of plants Collection of Materia Medica has been formed expressly for the use of Students The text-book used in this Class is Dr Garrod's Essen- tials of Materia Medica and Therapeutics 11 Obstetric Medicine and the Diseases of Women and Children These Lectures are illustrated by series of Drawings Dissections and Preparations Practical instruction is given in the use of Instruments and cases of Midwifery are assigned to Pupils 12 Botany In these Lectures the organization of Plants is demonstrated their physiology explained and the different modes of classi- fication natural and artificial described The subjects treated of are illustrated by fresh and dried specimens of Plants and by large collection of Drawings and Diagrams The Pupils have free admission to the Royal Botanic Society's Gardens in the Regent's Park and have thus every opportunity afforded them of acquiring practical knowledge of Plants The text-book used in this Class is Bentley's Manual of Botany 13 Forensic Medicine These Lectures treat of the legal and medical relations of each question in Forensic Medicine including Toxicology The Course is illustrated by drawings preparations and speci-
