GENERAL LITERATURE AND SCIENCE 107 in the case of Schools in Union have passed with distinc- tion the Examination held at the time of their entrance to the College are allowed upon their entrance to this De- partment to take rank with Students of the Fourth Term Personal application must be made at the time of entrance to the Secretary in order to secure this advantage Such Students in all competitions for Prizes will be considered as belonging to the Second year There is an Examination every year for all Students at the end of the Michaelmas and Easter Terms At these Examina- tions the Students are classed according to their proficiency The Examination in July is followed by public Distribution of Prizes detailed Report is sent at tbe end of each term to the parents or guardians of each Student both as to his progress and as to his general attention and good conduct during the Term If Student be absent from the College without permission from the Principal or without notice being sent to the Secre- tary letter is addressed to the parent or guardian notifying the fact The General Library is open daily to all Students for the purposes of study See Regulations page 422 limited number of Students are admitted to reside within the College see page 423 and some of the Professors as well as otbers connected with the College receive Students in their own houses See page 426 Dinner is provided in the College Hall every day at Six o'clock for such Students as may wish to avail themselves of this accommodation See page 427 II Occasional Students or those who being unable to attend the whole course are desirous of studying any par- ticular subject Every class is open to them on payment of the specified amount of fees see Section VII Such Students though not able to compete for the ordinary prizes may be recommended for special prize by the Professor
