annual REPOltT 10 the reputation of the Department as School of Engineering stands high in the opinion of those qualified to judge The following honours have also been gained Longstaff First Class in Natural Science Tripos at Oxford Clemenshaw First Class in same Tripos and Burdett Coutts Scholarship "W Deacon First Class in First Sc Examination at University of London Honours in Second Sc Examination Messrs Torrexs Leslie Curry Smith Pichford Rebsch Brown Carless and Hindley gained admissions to Cooper's Hill College -The Medical Department has not entirely main- tained the increase noted in the last Report as it includes only 150 Students as against 154 last year But its numbers are still in excess of the standard of late years and the general progress and stale of the Department are decidedly good The following are the chief honours gained during the past year At the University of London At the Preliminary Scientific Examination Nestor Isidore Charles Tirard and Henry Wade Deacon obtained Honours in Zoology and Harry Beacham Briggs and Howard Douglas Stewart Honours in Chemistry At the Second Examination Robert Eardley-Wilmot obtained the Scholarship and Gold Medal in Obstetric Medicine Joseph Henry Philpot First Class Honours in Medicine and in Obstetric Medicine and Francis Warner First Class Honours in Obstetric Medicine At the University of Oxford Joseph Henry Philpot distinguished Student of King's College has been nominated to Radclifife Studentship in that Univer- sity The promotion of Dr Playfair and Dr Ferrier to the Chairs of Obstetric Medicine and Forensic Medicine as
