medical department 189 difficulties which may have arisen With this familiar and conversational mode of instruction the Tutor is enabled to combine advice to each Student as to his plan of reading and note-taking and residing within the College he is constantly accessible and may be consulted upon numerous subjects to which the Professors could scarcely be expected to give their time and attention The Tutor's course of instruction is especially calculated to promote and encourage regular and diligent attendance upon Lectures During the Summer Session the same method is pursued with the subjects of Botany and Materia Medica The Medical Tutor will also conduct Class for the benefit of candidates preparing for the Preliminary Scientific Examination at the University of London The Class will attend for an hour three times week during the Winter Session when instruction will be given in Natural and Mechanical Philosophy Inorganic Chemistry and Zoology the Summer Session being devoted to Botany and repeated examinations in the subjects treated during the previous winter 22 The Dean of the Medical Department The Dean is appointed by the Council on the recom- mendation of the Professors and is their representative upon all occasions II He is in attendance from after the 24th of September and during the Medical Sessions for two hours every day except Saturday for the purpose of receiving and advising Students signing Cards of Admission Certificates and Schedules attending to the discipline of the Department and generally conducting under the Principal all the business connected therewith All Letters on the subject of the Department can be addressed to the Dean Cards of admission to Lectures can be obtained from the Secretary's office only by the Dean's written order and when obtained must be signed by him previously to being taken to the Professors
