general literature and science 115 Basent pu George Webbe Dasent Esq late Professor of English Literature and Modern History gives annually Prize in Books of the value of Ten Pounds for the best English Essay on some Historical or Literary subject which shall be dis- tinguished by accuracy of composition and elegance of style This prize is open to all Matriculated Students of the College not being Associates and not belonging to the Theological Department who have completed one Term and not exceeded nine Terms Students of the Evening Classes are subject to special conditions for which see Ev Class Dep Sect XI Subject for 1873 great and potent nobility addeth majesty to monarch but diminisheth power and putteth life and spirit into the people but presseth their fortune Bacon Candidates for all these Prizes are desired to adhere strictly to the terms of each thesis All Exercises for these Prizes must be delivered to the Secretary before four o'clock on Friday May 30 1873 The author of each Exercise is required to conceal his name and to distinguish his composition by some motto sending in at the same time his name sealed up under cover bearing the same motto XIII ORIENTAL SECTION The object of this Section is to meet the wants of Candidates for the Indian Civil Service particularly those selected for the further examination Η
