56 ANNUAL REPORT School to the post of Mathematical Master of the School and Dr Morris has been appointed Lecturer in English Literature to the Modern Department with special class in Mathematics Mr Brooksmith has been promoted to the charge of the Form vacated by Dr Morris and the Rev Belcher and Mr Keynell have been appointed to the Masterships of the Upper First and Lower First Forms in the Lower School The Lord Bishop of London was prevented holding his Annual Confirmation in the Chapel The Lord Bishop of Colombo however took his place and sixteen Students of the College and sixty-nine Boys of the School were presented by the Principal and Head-Master for Confirmation The in- crease in the number of candidates and the satisfactory results of the instruction given during the period of prepara- tion are alike gratifying In concluding this portion of their Report the Council have great satisfaction in announcing that they have received excellent Reports from the Principal the Deans of the various Departments and the Head-Master of the general good con- duct and industry of the Students of the College and the Boys of the School II -The Council have now to pass on to the special sub- jects to which in this year they would direct the attention of the Court They have first to announce with very great regret the loss of two members of their own body old and tried friends and supporters of the College Mr Edward Wigram for twenty-two years Member of the Council and for four years its Treasurer and Mr Sambrooke Both these gentlemen have long devoted much time and thought to the interests both of the College and Hospital and have given most liberal support to the College generally and lately to the Special Fund now being raised for the extinction of the debt Mr Sambrooke was the founder of the Medical Registrarship attached to the Hospital and in his will he has left legacy of Ι ΟΟΟΖ to that Institution and reversionary interest of considerable value to the College for
