ANNUAL REPORT 51 The following are the principal distinctions that have been gained by the Students of this Department during the past year At the University of London At the Examination Mr Evan Buchanan Baxter 2nd in order of merit obtaining marks qualifying for Gold Medal at Second Μ Examination John Cornow Scholarship and Gold Medal in Medicine Scholarship and Gold Medal in Obstetric Medicine and Honours in Forensic Medicine at Preliminary Scientific Examination Ernest William White Honours in Chemistry George Henry Batterbury Honours in Botany and Zoology At Apothecaries Hall Gerald Bomford Gold Medal in Botany Andrew Duncan Silver Medal in Botany Joseph Henry Philpot Gold Medal in Maiteria Medica In order to meet the requirements of the time the Coun- ן cil by desire of the Medical Board have established chair of Psychological Medicine The new regulations of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and other Examining Boards having rendered it necessary to make provision for the special teaching of Practical Physiology in the College the Council have made temporary arrangements for that purpose during the ensuing Summer Session and trust to obtain from the Crown the grant of piece of land on the Thames Embankment in immediate proximity to the Dissecting Room which will enable them to complete suitable Laboratory the want of which has long been felt This new course has necessitated the appointment of Demonstrator of Practical Physiology and the Council have been fortunate in securing the services of Dr David Ferrier late Lecturer on Physiology in the Middlesex Hospital On the death of Dr Miller the Council after mature de- liberation decided to abolish the chair of Practical Chemistry and henceforward to place the whole chemical teaching of the College under the direction of the Professor of Chemistry
