262 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT IV society op apothecaries Every Candidate for Certificate of Qualification to practise as an Apothecary will be required to produce Testimonials- Of having passed preliminary examination in Arts as test of general education Certificates in Arts granted by any of the bodies recognised by the Medical Council will be accepted This examina- tion must be passed before the commencement of Professional Studies which is defined by the Medical Council "to be the time of com- mencing studies at Medical School Of having served an Apprenticeship or Pupilage of not less than five years to Practitioner qualified by the Act of 1815 This period may include the time spent in attending Lectures and Hospital Practice Of having attained the full age of twenty-one years of which satis- factory evidence will be required Of good moral conduct Of having pursued Course of Medical Study in conformity with the Regulations of the Court Every Candidate whose attendance on Lectures shall commence on or after the 1st of October 1863 must attend the following Lectures and Medical Prac- tice each Winter Session to consist of not less than six months and to com- mence not sooner than the 1st nor later than the 15th of October and each Summer Session to extend from the Ist of May to the 31st of July first year Winter Session -Chemistry Anatomy and Physiology Dissections Summer Session Materia Medica and Therapeutics Botany Practical Chemistry second year Winter Session Anatomy Physiology Dissections Principles and Practice of Medicine Clinical Medical Practice Summer Session Clinical Medical Practice Midwifery and Diseases of Women and Children with attendance on cases not less than 20 Forensic Medicine and Toxicology By Practical Chemistry is meant specific Course of Instruction in the Laboratory with an opportunity of Personal Manipulation in the ordinary Pro- cesses of Chemistry and of acquiring knowledge of the various Re-agents for Poisons Certificate of such attendance will be received from legally qualified Practitioner
