154 APPLIED SCIENCES which days all old Students must be present at 10 unless special leave of absence is obtained beforehand from the Principal The Students received into this Department are- Matriculated Students or those admittedtotheregular and full prescribed course of study Each Candidate for Matriculation must produce testi- monial of good character from his la3t instructor and when admitted by the Principal he must subscribe his name to declaration that he will conform to all the rules and regulations which may from time to time be prescribed for the good government of the College under the sanction and authority of the Council Special Certificate is required in the case of Pupils coming up from the School See School Clause XVIII Except by the special permission of the Principal no one is admitted Student of this Department under sixteen years of age The full course of study which each Student is recommended to pursue carries him through three Academical years The year consists of Three Terms viz Michaelmas Term from the beginning of October to the week before Christmas Lent Term from the middle of Jauaryn to the week before Easter Easter Term from Easter to the beginning of July Pupils who have passed two years in King's College School have attained the age of sixteen and have passed at least one Term in the highest class of either Division are allowed on their entrance to this Department to take rank with Students of the Fourth Term Personal application must be made at the time of entrance to the Secretary in order to secure this advantage Such Students in all com- petitions for prizes will be considered as belonging to the Second Year There are examinations at the end of the Michaelmas and Easter Terms when the Students are classed according to pro- ficiency The examination in June is followed by public distribution of Prizes
