MEDICAL DEPARTMENT Sect XI The Examinations on the third and fourth divisions cannot take place until the Candidate has completed his fourth annus medicus Sect XII Candidates may if they choose be admitted to examination on the first two of these divisions at the end of their third year or to the four examina- tions at the end of their fourth year Sect XIII The Degree of Doctor of Medicine may be conferred on any Can- didate who has obtained the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and is of the age of twenty-four years and has been engaged subsequently to his having received the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine for at least two years in attendance on an Hospital or in the Military or Naval Medical Services or in Medical and Surgical Practice Provided always that the Degree of Doctor of Medicine shall not be conferred on any person unless he be Graduate in Arts of one of the Universities of England Scotland or Ireland or of such other Universities as are above specified or unless he shall before or at the time of his obtaining the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine or within three years thereafter have passed satisfactory Examination in Greek and in Logic or Moral Philosophy and in one at least of the following subjects namely French German Higher Mathe- matics and Natural Philosophy And provided also that the Candidate for the Degree of Doctor of Medicine shall "submit to the Medical Faculty Thesis certified by him to have been composed by himself and which shall be approved by the Faculty on any branch of knowledge comprised in the professional Examinations for the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine which he may have made sutiject of study after having received that Degree The Preliminary Examinations in Arts take place on the 18th and 19th of October 1870 and the 21st and 22d March 1871 The Professional Examinations take place in April June July and October the Examinations in Chemistry Botany and Natural History in April and October those in Anatomy Institutes of Medicine Materia Medica and Pathology in April and July those in the other subjects in June III ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS Bye-Laws as to Licentiates Every Candidate for the College Licence except in cases specially exempted is required to produce satisfactory evidence to the following effect Of having attained the age of twenty-one years II Of moral character III Of having passed preliminary Examination in the subjects of General Education IV Of having been registered as Medical Student in the manner prescribed by the General Medical Council Of having been engaged in professional st udies during four years of which at least three Winter Sessions and two Summer Sessions shall have been passed
