228 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT The viva voce examination shall be chiefly in Anatomy and the application of Surgical Apparatus Bandages &a the written examination in Surgery and Materia Medica including Toxicology The House Surgeon shall visit the surgical wards daily between ten and twelve accompany the Surgeon during his visit and prescribe under his direction shall see such patients in the evening as he may think necessary and shall be responsible for the proper management and dressing of all the surgical cases The instruments and surgical apparatus shall be in his charge and he shall make Monthly Report of their condition to the Medical Committee He shall superintend the necessary preparations for and be present at all operations He shall give early notice of all important operations to the medical officers by filling up and transmit- ing the printed forms prepared for that purpose and shall send regular notice to the College of such operations and of the Surgical Clinical Lectures such notices to be forwarded at the earliest possible moment to the porter of the Anatomi- cal Department In the event of the death of patient in the Surgical Wards he shall send immediate notice to the Surgeon under whose care the patient was admitted and to the Pathological Registrar Assistant House Surgeon -The subjects of the examination for this office is the same as that required for the office of House Surgeon This Officer will not reside in the Hospital but he is per- mitted to board at the Hospital on payment of the sum of 20 before entering upon the duties of his office He shall supply the place of the House Surgeon during his necessary absence and assist him when required except at such times as he is in attendance upon the Surgeon to Out- Patients He shall make chemical and microscopical exami- nations and shall be responsible for all instruments and apparatus entrusted to his care He shall attend in the Out- Patient department at one o'clock daily and remain there until all the Out-Patients have been seen shall occupy separate desk and see such patients as are allotted to him by the
