MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 221 Examinations of candidates to fill these offices will be held on Monday and Tuesday October 10 and 11 1870 and on Monday and Tuesday March 13 and 14 1871 The appoint- ments severally take effect from the 1st November and the 1st May following None but Matriculated Students shall be allowed to become candidates for these appointments except for the Surgeon- Dentist's Assistants No Student shall under any circumstances be admitted as candidate for any of these offices whose character and conduct shall not have been approved by the Principal Student sending in his name as candidate for any office thereby signifies his willingness and intention if elected to discharge in person the duties of that office for the entire period of six months Candidates must give in their names to the Dean of the Medical Department at least seven clear days before the exami- nation They are required to write fair and legible hand No Student shall be permitted to hold two offices at the Hospital at the same time The examination shall be conducted on the first day by tied voce questioning and on the second day by written papers No one who does not pass the viva voce shall be admitted to the written examination The selection shall always be according to merit at these examinations but in case of equality the election shall be according to seniority on the Hospital Register Special certificates will be given to each Student who shall have filled any office in King's College Hospital to the satis- faction of the Medical Officer or Officers under whom he may have served Application for such certificates must be made to the Dean on the expiration of the period of service No Student shall receive certificate who has not attended regularly during the entire six months of his appointment If from any cause any gentleman shall be obliged tu resign his appointment he shall immediately give notice in writing both to the Dean of the Medical Department and to the Secretary of the Hospital
