annual report Έ -The Council have great pleasure in stating that the Evening Class Department though its numbers have heen diminished by the opening of Evening Classes elsewhere has fully maintained its efficiency and success That success is due to the thorough unity of feeling and spirit of work both in the Professors and Lecturers among whom this year the Principal takes his place and the Students and thus resting on the firm ground of right principle it can hardly fail to continue and to increase One important step is now contemplated and will probably be taken before the next Winter Session It has been felt by many of those connected with the Department that some more complete organization of its work is now needed That work has grown up rapidly and assumed dimensions far beyond those originally contemplated In fact the Depart- ment is not one but manifold there is hardly subject taught in the Classes of any of the regular Departments which is not represented more or less perfectly in the Evening Classes Accordingly Board has been formed of all the Professors and Lecturers of the Department under the presidency of the Principal and of Professor Leone Levi as Dean and that Board while they feel the necessity of leaving to the Students the perfect freedom of selection of Classes which they at present enjoy yet have seen the importance of grouping together sets of Classes with view to preparation for several important trades and professions and of offering incen- tives to Students to follow the courses of study thus indicated by the giving of Special Certificates of Honour which it is hoped may be recognised by some of the leading employers of labour The scheme is clearly an important one and will receive the most careful attention of the Council If it can be carried out successfully King's College will again take the lead in new development of great work of education which it was foremost in originating and in conducting to its present degree of efficiency and success F- With regard to King's College School the Council are glad to be able to report most favourably The numbers
