50 ANNUAL REPORT co-operation with the Council in all efforts to extend the sphere of instruction given in the College and especially by the benefit he has conferred on the Church in having been practically the founder of the Theological Department of this College The Council have only to add that they have before them the names of several excellent candidates for the office of Principal and that they hope to select one who will bring to bear upon the work of the College an amount of zeal ability and learning not inferior to that by which his predecessors have been distinguished The Financial position of the College does not call for remark beyond the expression of the Council's satisfaction that they have been able to secure this year the necessary surplus of Ā£500 which will as usual go in diminution of the debt due by the College The extinction of this debt is paramount object with the Council The Council cannot more fitly conclude this Report than by once more recording their humble recognition of the great truth that the well-doing and even the existence of this College depends exclusively upon Divine protection and expressing their entire reliance upon Him who is the Fountain of all goodness that amidst all the changes and chances to which human institutions are liable so long as the College remains true to its principles it will not be deserted or suffered to fall into decay
