ANNUAL REPORT 47 of the Pupils The change as to the hour of beginning School from o'clock to 30 which was introduced with the sanction of the Council has enabled all the boys to be present in Chapel and the special services at the opening and close of each term have had marked effect upon the tone and behaviour of the School Forty-two boys were admitted to the rite of Confirmation which was celebrated for the benefit of both College and School by the Lord Bishop of London in the College Chapel on March 25th and nearly all who live within reasonable distance communicated at special Celebra- tion of the Holy Communion on the following Sunday in the Chapel During the past year the nomenclature of the different Classes in the and Β Divisions was assimilated so as to correspond in rank on either side The French and German Classes have been placed on better footing The most important change of the year has been the creation of new Department entitled the Lower School consisting of the Third Upper Second Lower Second and First Classes intended to give to the Pupils entering it sound elementary and pre- paratory education and to fit them for subsequently being moved to either of the higher Divisions The office of Master of the Lower School has been entrusted to the Rev George Rust who in the capacity of Assistant Master has already served the College faithfully for period of nineteen years Several distinctions have been gained during the past year at the Universities by Pupils of the School of which the most important are Cambridge Christie William Η 4th Wrangler Clinton-Ftnes Eostaoe 9th in the First Class of the Classical Tripos Platt Bernard Cosmo an Open Scholarship at St Peter's College Hall Edward Grainger an Open Classical Scholarship at Caius College
