44 annual report Mr Boyd obtained Honours on Matriculation at the University of London With respect to the Oriental Section of this Department experience seems to show that it does not attract an adequate supply of Matriculated Students out of the very limited number of India Civil Service Candidates selected each year for further examination The prescribed course is not such as to be adapted to the wants of all Candidates in fact usually decline Matriculation and each chooses the subjects specially required in his own case In this way the able body of Professors will still be of great service to the College The Applied Sciences Department continues to flourish keeping up its numbers and its popularity Some of the Lecture-rooms are already over-crowded especially the Drawing-room and with view of providing additional accommodation to meet the present and prospective wants of this Department the Council are about to order re distri- bution of the Lecture-rooms as well as the enlargement of the Workshops The following Students of this Department gained at the last Examination appointments in the Engineers' establish- meut of the Department of Public Works in India Pelham Maitland Walter Brandreth Bromley Joseph Heinig In the Medical Department the total number of Matri- culated Students is 130 against 140 in the two years imme- diately preceding While regretting this diminution the Council believe that changes contemplated in the mode of payment of Fees and in other particulars affecting this Department will speedily lead to an increase in the number of new entries The diligence conduct and subordination of the Students of this Department with scarcely an exception during the past year have been such as to leave nothing to be desired
