108 GENERAL LITERATURE AND SCIENCE The Junior Courses commenced on Wednesday June 10 and will continue to the first Examination with vacation of seven weeks in August and September For the second Examination they will commence at such time subsequent to the first Examination as shall hereafter be fixed and con- tinue to the second Examination with brief intervals at Christmas and Easter For each Examination sixteen weeks will be devoted to the work of the Section The Inaugural Lecture on "The Legal Studies of Selected Candidates was delivered by Professor Cutler at four o'clock on Wednesday June 10 and was open gratuitously to all selected Candidates The Senior Courses will commence twelve weeks previous to the day fixed by the Civil Service Commissioners for the third Examination of the Candidates selected in 1867 The opening day will be announced by advertisement or can be learned of the Dean of the Section one week after the in- structions have been issued The mode of instruction adopted by the Professors is combination of lecturing with oral examinations and they examine the students both viva voce and by written papers at the end of each half year Gentlemen may be admitted either as Matriculated Students of the College by entering the following course Any two of the Languages named in the list English Law and Jurisprudence Indian Law and the Procedure of the Law Courts in India Law of Evidence and Procedure of the Law Courts in England Political Economy or as occasional Students by joining any one or more classes on payment of the specified fees Matriculated Students wishing to attend more than two Language classes can do so upon payment of the fees of £9 9s for the year or £5 5s for the half-year for each additional class
