MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 235 II STATUTES OF ΤΠΕ UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH RELATIVE TO GRADUATION IN MEDICINE By regulation of the University of Edinburgh three out of the four years of study required by that University for its degrees of and may be passed in studying at the Medical School of King's College Sect The following degrees are conferred viz CM and The degree of Master in Surgery CM is not conferred on any person who does not also at the same time obtain the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine Sect II The preliminary branches of extra-professional education are English Latin Arithmetic the Elements of Mathematics and Mechanics and the proficiency of Students in these branches is ascertained by Exami- nation prior to the commencement of their Medical Study Sect III No Candidate is admitted to Professional Examination who has not pas3ed satisfactory examination on at least two of the following subjects in addition to the subjects mentioned above Greek French German Higher Mathematics Natural Philosophy Logic and Moral Philosophy and the Examination on these latter subjects also takes place before the Candidate has entered on his Medical curriculum Sect IV degree in Arts not being an Honorary degree exempts from all Preliminary Examination Sect No one shall be admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine or Master in Surgery who has not been engaged in medical and surgical study for four years Sect VI Every candidate for the Degrees of and CM must give sufficient evidence by certificates- That he has studied each of the following departments of Medical Science viz Anatomy ץ Chemistry Materia Medica and Pharmacy Institutes of Medicine or Physiology Practice of Medicine Surgery Midwifery and the Diseases peculiar to Women and Children two courses of Midwifery of three months each being IDuring Courses including no course provided different departments of Obstetric Medicine be taught in each of the Courses General Pathology or in Schools where there is no such course three months' Course of Lectures on Morbid Anatomy together with supplemental Course οί Practice of Medicine or Clinical Medicine reckoned equivalent less than 100 Lectures
