92 GENERAL LITERATURE AND SCIENCE sists of Three Terms viz Michaelmas Term from the beginning of October to the week before Christmas Lent Term ftom the middle of January to the week before Easter Easter Term from Easter to the middle of July Pupils who have passed two years in King's College School or in one of the Schools of Union have attained the age of Sixteen and have spent at least one Term in the highest Classical Class of such School before leaving it are allowed upon their entrance to this Department to take rank with Students of the Fourth Term Personal applica- tion must be made at the time of entrance to the Secretary in order to secure this advantage There is an Examination every year for all Students at the end of the Michaelmas and Easter Terms At these Examina- tions the Students are classed according to their proficiency The Examination in July is followed by public Distribution of Prizes detailed Report is sent at the end of each term to the pa- rents or guardians of each Student both as to his progress and as to his general attention and good conduct during the Term In case of Student being absent from the College without permission from the Principal or without notice being sent to the Secretary letter is addressed to the parent or guardian notifying the fact The General Library is open daily to all Students for the purposes of study See Regulations page 352 limited number of Students are admitted to reside within the College see page 353 and some of the Professors as well as others connected with the College receive Students in their own houses See page 356 Dinner is provided in the College Hall every day at Six o'clock for such Students as may wish to avail themselves of this accommodation See page 357 II Occasional Students or those who being unable to attend the whole course are desirous of studying any par- ticular subject Every class is open to such Students on payment of the specified amount of fees See Section IV
