annual report 47 Houndle Clerkship in the Adjutant-General's Office Adams Alfeed James Division first out of fifteen candidates for an appointment in the Post Office The Council record with regret the death of the Rev Thomas Swinburne Carr after faithful service of thirty-two years as an Assistant Master in the School The vacancy has been filled up by the appointment of John Sbackleton Esq The office of Mathematical Master has become vacant by the appointment of James Pierce Esq to the office of Mathe- matical Master at Bedford Grammar School It is with regret that the Council lose his valuable services The appointment will be filled up before the commencement of next term The Evening Class Department has not fallen short the success of previous years either in the extent or the use- fulness of its work The number of Students in attendance during tbe past Winter Session was 654 of whom 81 were Matriculated The Professors and Lecturers report that they have the fullest reason to be satisfied with the regularity and attention of their Classes and the Students have not failed to respond to the zealous efforts of their Teachers by hearty co- operation and warm loyalty to the College An important Class has been added to those already exist- ing for instruction in Public Reading under the able guidance of the Rev D'Orsey the Lecturer in this subject in the Theological Department The Clfiss has been numerously attended and Mr D'Orsey reports that through all his long and wide experience as Teacher he has never known any body of men make more rapid pro- gress or attain more satisfactory efficiency within the same limits of time The Rev Samuel Cheetham having been appointed Chaplain to Dulwich College has resigned the office of Censor but retains the Professorship of Pastoral Theology The Rev Henry White is now discharging the duties of Censor
