236 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT II Candidates will be required to produce the following Certificates viz Of being twenty-one years of age Of having been engaged during four years in the acquirement of professional knowledge Of having studied Practical Pharmacy during three months Of having attended Lectures on Anatomy delivered not less frequently than four times in each week during two Winter Sessions Of having performed Dissections during not less than two Winter Sessions Of having attended Lectures on Physiology delivered not less fre- quently than twice in each week during two Winter Sessions Of having attended Lectures on Surgery during two Winter Sessions of which one Course must not be earlier than the Third Winter Session at recognised Medical School Of having attended one Course of Lectures on each of the following subjects viz Chemistry Materia Medica Medicine and Midwifery Of having attended at recognised Hospital or Hospitals in the United Kingdom or Colonies the Practice of Medicine and Clinical Lectures on Medicine during one Winter and one Summer Session 10 Of having attended at recognised Hospital or Hospitals in the United Kingdom or Colonies the Practice of Surgery and Clinical Lectures on Surgery during three Winter and two Summer Sessions 11 Of Instruction and Proficiency in the practice of Vaccination 12 Of having subsequently to the completion of two years' professional educa tion taken charge of Patients under the superintendence of Surgeon during not less than six months tit Hospital General Dispensary or Parochial or Union Infirmary recognised fur this purpose or in such other similar manner as in the opinion of the Council shall afford sufficient opportunity for the acquirement of Practical Surgery Note -The Regulations in italics apply to Candidates in the United Kingdom who commenced their professional education on or afier the 1st of October 1863 and to Candidates who commenced their prefessional education in the Colonies on or after the ist of October 1864 III Certificates will not be received on more than one branch of science from one and the same Lecturer but Anatomy and Dissections will be considered as one branch of science IV Certificates will not be recognised from any Hospital unless the Surgeons thereto be members of one of the legally constituted Colleges of Surgeons in the United Kingdom nor from any School of Anatomy and Physiology or Midwifery unless the teachers in such School be members of some legally con- stituted College of Physicians or Surgeons in the United Kingdom nor from any School of Surgery unless the Teachers in such School be members of one of the legally constituted Colleges of Surgeons in the United Kingdom No Metropolitan Hospital will be recognised by this College which con- tains less than 150 and no Provincial or Colonial Hospital which contains less than 100 Patients
