applied sciences 141 In addition to the regular Lectures to the Matriculated Students in this Department arrangements have been made tor complete Course of Private Instruction in the several Photographic processes glass house with commodious developing-rooms has been erected and in connexion with it Laboratory for the preparation of Photographic chemicals The fee for Course of ten private lessons of two hours each is 61 5s inclusive of Chemicals This Course compre- hends the theory and practice of the Collodion wet and dry processes also of positive printing For fee of 13 10s the private Student will receive card entitling him for year to the right of attendance at Lectures and to the use of chemicals apparatus &c XIII Engineering Workshops For Hours of Attendance see the Time Table The Workshops have been considerably improved by the addition of Planing Machine for Metal Work and by the introduction of Steam Engine These together with the re- arrangement of the various Machines and their adaptation to the application of Steam power have greatly increased the effectiveness of the Workshops and much greater facilities are now afforded for the execution of various works Students of the First Year on joining the Department are made acquainted with the different Tools and their practical application to the purposes of Carpenters' and Joiners' work by going through the processes of Preparing the Wood setting out and forming the various Joints used in Construe- tions of Wood after which they are employed in making Models in which the preceding Joints are combined so as to form Trusses for Roofs Bridges Girders and other Framings required for Buildings and other purposes Second Year Students are then enabled to proceed with the construction of Models of various sorts in illustration of the different apparatus used in Practical Mechanics Manufactures and Philosophical Experiments which involve the necessity
