104 general literature and science Stbattng otittv'S xi For rules affecting candidates see next Section Subject for 1867 On the advantages moral social and political derived by England from its colonial possessions Candidates for all these Prizes are desired to adhere strictly to the terms of each thesis All Exercises must be delivered to the Secretary of King's College before four o'clock on Friday May 31 1867 and after that time none will be received The author of each Exercise is required to conceal his name and to distinguish his composition by some motto sending in at the same time his name sealed up under cover bearing the same motto Section XI king's college debating and literary society Patron-Rev Jelf Vice-Patron-Rev Prof Brewer The Members of this Society meet every Wednesday to discuss literary political and historical subjects and every alternate Saturday to read the works of Shakspeare and other English authors They also hold terminal Evening Discussion The questions for discussion are submitted for the sanction of the Principal The Society is open to the Students of all Departments of the College The affairs of the Society are conducted by Committee of Officers chosen at General Meeting of the Members at the end of each Term The Society gives an Annual Prize of Two Guineas for the best Essay on some subject to be chosen by the Principal This Prize is open to all the Students of the College but the successful competitor is required to become Member
