annual REPORT 47 Ε Sladen Second Class in Classics Maidlow the Eldon Scholarship Ameeico Marras the Arnold Essay Prize Warren Fellowship at Wadham At Cambridge- Taylor Fellowship of St John's and bracketed equal in the Tyrwhit Hebrew Scholarship Bodkin an open Scholarship at King's Three former pupils who in successive years gained the 1st Mathematical Scholarship in the School have been elected Scholars- Galliers of Caius College Watherston and Hensman of Emanuel College Richard PhenjS Spiers former Pupil whose name was mentioned with so much honour last year has again highly distinguished himself In December 1864 the Travelling Studentship in Architecture was awarded to him by the Royal Academy and in February 1865 the Soane Medallion with 50 was allotted to him by the Royal Institute of British Architects The Division of Modern Instruction is unusually full and is doing good service in qualifying its pupils for the Army and Navy for the profession of Civil Engineers and for Mercantile pursuits The Evening Class Department as the latest in the date of its foundation though by no means the least important part of the College closes this report as far as it relates to the work of Education In proportion as its advantages be- come known its numbers and its usefulness increase The total number of Students exceed that of any former year The number of those who have become Associates is already considerable and it is fact of great significance that there are many men of ability hitherto strangers to Collegiate in- fluence who pride themselves in being recognized members of
