222 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT This Officer will not reside in the Hospital but he is per- mitted to board at the Hospital on payment of the sum of '201 before entering upon the duties of his office He shall supply the place of the House Surgeon during his necessary absence and assist him when required except at such times as he is in attendance upon the Surgeon to Out- Patients He shall make chemical and microscopical exami- nations and shall be responsible for all instruments and apparatus entrusted to his care He shall attend in the Out- Patient department at one o'clock daily and remain there until all the Out-Patients have been seen shall occupy separate desk and see such patients as are allotted to him by the Surgeon in attendance shall take charge of the instruments in the Out-Patient department and superintend the dressing and instruct the Out-Patient Dressers in their duties He shall also see that the Surgery is kept in good order Candidates for this office must have filled the office of Dresser to Out-Patients and are not eligible for examination later than five years from the date of their Matriculation in the Medical Department Such Assistant House Surgeons as shall have performed their duties to the satisfaction of the Committee of Management and the Council during six months shall if otherwise eligible be considered as having cateris paribus claim to be elected to the office of House Surgeon Pathological Registrar -The duties of this Officer are To see that due notice of the time of holding each post- mortem Examination be posted at the Hospital and College To perform all Medical and Surgical post-mortem Examinations unless the Physician or Surgeon wish to per- form such Examination himself In the absence of the Physician or Surgeon to point out to the Students the morbid appearances and other circum- stances worthy of notice In the absence of the Physician or Surgeon to dictate during the progress of the post-mortem to the Clinical Clerk or Dresser under whose charge the patient has been the
