applied sciences 159 Section VII engineering society Patron the rev jelf Honorary Presidents rev professor hall professor kerr professor shelley professor castle This Society was established in Michaelmas Term 1863 having for its object the cultivation of Engineering Science for which purpose meetings are held every Thursday After- noon during Term when paper on some Engineering subject is read by one of the Members and the matter brought forward is afterwards discussed Two prizes are given at the end of Easter Term one for the best paper read before the Society during the year by Matriculated Student and another for the best essay on some Engineering subject to be competed for by those Members who have not read papers The Society is composed of the Honorary Members before mentioned and ordinary Members elected from the past and present Students of the Department of" Applied Sciences The Officers are elected terminally those Members who are Matriculated Students being only eligible At the commencement of the Academical Year an Evening Meeting or Soiree is held to which the Members and their friends are admitted The next will be held early in October when there will be an Evening Debate the particulars of which will be duly announced One of the fundamental rules of the Society is that each Member is to consider himself pledged to furnish paper in turn by which it is hoped that all Members will be made to take an active interest in the Society and maintain it in state of efficiency worthy of the College The Expenses of the Society are defrayed by Subscription of 2s 6d per Term from each Member Gentlemen wishing to join are requested to communicate with the Honorary Secretary
