applied sciences 139 Advanced Students have the option of following either course separately on making proper application those in the first year may attend the Geometrical Drawing class alone if they wish it but not the class for technical Drawing alone unless they show sufficient knowledge of Geometrical Draw- ing to enable them to understand the examples placed in their hands It will be seen by the following outline of the course that Students are encouraged to make careful and accurate working drawings directly bearing upon the subjects in which they receive instruction in Section IV Arts of Construction and Section Manufacturing Art and Machinery Elementary Exercises of the Course -The enlargement and reduction to various scales of examples from acknowledged works of merit principally of modern construction and drawings to scale from rough figured sketches until the Student shows sufficient neatness accuracy and general know- ledge of the subject to render him of some service in the office of an architect or engineer In Architectural Drawing The Student will then make working drawings for the construction of floor3 roofs and general details of buildings in conformity with modern prac tice Advanced Students will proceed to apply their know- ledge of construction to architectural design will receive instruction in the elements and principles of the ornament suitable to the building and the leading features of the various historic styles of ornament the projection of shadows colouring and finishing the drawings and perspective view of the design In Engineering Drawing -Working drawings for Foundations Earth Works Walls and Abutments Stone Girder Tubular and Suspension Bridges and the framing and trussing of timber and temporary bridges General Railway works Permanent Way Sidings Crossings Switches Turntables and their various details Embank- ments Cuttings Tunnels Bridges Stations Workshops &c Harbours Lighthouses Docks Canals
