applied sciences 137 VII Drawing geometrical architectural and engineering First Year Monday 15 to and Thursday to Second Year Tuesday to 30 Friday to Third Year Tuesday 15 to Friday to and to The Drawing Room is also open on Wednesday afternoon from to for special instruction in Architectural and Engineering Drawing Occasional Students can attend daily Saturday excepted from to geometrical drawing First Year Students who on entering this Department have little or no knowledge of Geometry must commence with the elementary problems on the straight line and circle and when they have acquired some little skill in the use of their instru- ments they are set to copy such symmetrical figures as occur in all works of construction II They then proceed to make plans elevations and sections of simple solids to teach them the elementary principles of co-ordinate or solid Geometry on which all drawing is based III These principles are then applied to the delineation of parts and details of machinery and building deducing new sections or elevations from plans of authentic works set before them As it is primary object to make the Students finished draughtsmen none are allowed to proceed to higher section till they have made satisfactory progress in the previous ones while the principles on which the object represented are con- structed are pointed out to them to guard against their becoming mere copyists
