68 THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT They must produce Certificate of good moral and religious character from the Clergyman of their parish or of the parish in which they have last resided The names of one or more friends to whom the Candi- date is well known must be given as referees They must pass an examination in the following subjects The Four Gospels in Greek The Historical Books of the Old Testament The Church Catechism with Scripture Proofs One Greek and one Latin Book to be selected by the Candidate from the following list Homer -Books II III Cicero De Finibus One Greek Tragedy Cssar -" De Bello Gallico Three Herodotus -Book II or any two Books other Books Sallust Thucvdides -One Book Livy -Two Books Xekofhon -" CyropEedia Books Tacitus De Moribns German- II III orum and Agricola Anabasis Books Virgil -Three Books of the jEneid II III or the Georgics Cicero -" De Officiis Horace -The Odes the Satires or De Natura Deorum the Epistles Latin and Greek Grammar One Standard Book in English Literature viz Bacon's Essays small pamphlet Initia Hebraica of four pages on the Hebrew Alphabet by the Rev McCaul This may be purchased at the Secretary's Office King's College London price 6d or by post 7d After passing this examination Candidates for admission must obtain the recommendation of Bishop The days fixed for the entrance examination in the next Academical Year are Wednesday Sept 30 1S63 Wednesday January 20 and Wednesday April 1864
