ANNUAL REPORT 49 expected but this the youngest branch of the Institution has taken root in the Metropolis and is spreading and bearing fruit In no part of the College is Collegiate Education or the privilege of permanent Incorporation more fully appre- ciated than in this no less than ninety-two Students having spontaneously submitted to the restraints incidental to Matri- culation in the hope of obtaining after two or three years self-denial and labour the Diploma of Associate of King's College London At the Second Examination of the University of Loudon Alexander Morrison Thomson Student of this Department obtained Honours in Chemistry and in Vegetable Physiology and in the Competitive examination for the Indian Civil Service William Irvine and Joseph Charles Hughesdon both obtained appointments The following former Students of the College and School gained appointments last year in the Civil Service of Her Majesty in the East Indies Walker Arthur George Tawnet James Walter Williams John Charles Irvine William Thompson William Henry Coxhead Thomas Edward Hughesdon Joseph Charles The Council have the painful duty of recording the death of two much-valued members of their own body Sir Brodie Bart and Charles Parker Esq Sir Benjamin Brodie being Life Governor the Visitor has appointed in his room Dr Watson thus creating vacancy in the list of elected members which like that of Mr Parker will be supplied at the Ballot of to-day The reconstruction of the College Chapel remains unfinished but the Council learn with satisfaction that several subscribers have lately given fresh proof of their munificence by doubling their subscriptions and that with some additional help there Β
