annual report 45 At the First Examination Harries Gwynne Henry Honours in Physiology &0 Kemtthorne Henry Law Honours in Materia Medica &c At the Second Examination Huxley James Usher Scholarship and Gold Medal in Physiology kc Honours in Surgery and in Midwifery Gold Medal in Medicine Morton Thomas Honours in Physiology in Surgery and in Midwifery Hewlett Kichard Whitfield Gold Medal in Surgery Parson Edward Honours in Medicine and Gold Medal in Midwifery In this as in other parts of the College considerable changes have taken place in the Educational Staff It is with deep regret that the Council call special attention to the resignation of two eminent Professors whose connexion with the College dates from very early period-viz Dr Budd elected Professor of the Principles and Practice of Medicine in 1841 and Dr Farre Professor of Midwifery in 1844 Both are now compelled by the pressure of professional en- gagements to retire from the College and Hospital Dr Budd has been succeeded by Dr George Johnson who has resigned in consequence the Chair of Materia Medica and Therapeutics the office thus vacated being filled up by the appointment of Dr Garrod Dr Farre's place has been supplied by the election of Dr Priestley King's College Hospital pursues its career of unexampled usefulness under the active superintendence of William Henry Smith Esq Vice-chairman and the Committee of Manage- ment In all its Departments finances alone excepted it continues to flourish beyond all expectations The Council add here few facts about the Hospital which have lately been published and cordially invite the attention of all the friends of the College to them
