MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 249 To pass Ihe Preliminary Scientific Examination and two Examinations in Medicine Preliminary Scientific Examination The Preliminary Scientific Examination shall take place once in each year and shall commence on the third Monday in July No Candidate shall be admitted to this Examination until he shall have com- pleted his Seventeenth year and shall have either passed the Matriculation Examination or shall have taken Degree in Arts in one of the Universities of the United Kingdom The subjects of examination will he Mechanical and Natural Philosophy Chemistry Botany Vegetable Physiology Zoology Any candidate who has passed the Preliminary Scientific Examination may be examined for Honours in Chemistry and Natural Philosophy Biology An Exhibition of £40 per annum for two years is given in each subject First Μ Examination This Examination takes place on the last Monday in July each year Fee £5 Candidates must produce Certificates of having completed their nineteenth year of having passed the preliminary Scientific Examination at least one year previously taken Degree in Arts at any recognised University or passed the Matriculation Examination subsequently studied at recognised Medical School for two years Dissected during two winter sessions attended course of Practical Chemistry attended to Practical Pharmacy attended course of Lectures on three of the subjects in the annexed List -Descriptive and Surgical Anatomy General Anatomy and Physiology Comparative Anatomy Patho- logical Anatomy Materia Medica and Pharmacy General Pathology General Therapeutics Forensic Medicine Hygiene Midwifery and Diseases of Women and Children Surgery Medicine The subjects for Examination are Anatomy Physiology Chemistry Botany Materia Medica and Pharmacy Candidates will also be required to translate passages from the London Pharmacopoeia Those who are placed in the First Class in this Examination may go in for honours the following week and will be examined in any or all of these sub- jects viz Anatomy and Physiology Chemistry Materia Medica and Pharmacy Any Candidate who has been placed in the First Division at the First Μ Examination may be examined for Honours in any or all of the following subjects Anatomy Physiology Histology and Comparative Anatomy Materia Medica and Pharmacy and Chemistry in relation to Physiology Pharmacy and Toxicology An Exhibition of £40 per annum for two years is given in each subject Candidates who have matriculated previously to June 1860 will not be re- quired to pass the Preliminary Scientific Examination in any other subjects than Chemistry and Botany and they will be allowed to pass the Preliminary Scien- tific Examination and the First Examination in the same year if they so prefer
