medical department 229 The object of this Society is the cultivation of Medicine and the auxiliary sciences by the propagation of spirit of original observation and research and of feeling of friendship and co-operation among those engaged in the pursuit of these sciences The Society consists of Honorary and Ordinary Members with Office-bearers who are all elected by the Society An Ordinary Meeting at which paper is read is held once fortnight during the Winter Session meeting is also held once month for the exhibition of pathological specimens and discussion of cases Communications from Corresponding Members are also read and discussed Papers and essays are solicited from all members of the Society and it is requested that the Secretaries may receive notice of such papers as early in the Session as possible Applications for membership are to be addressed to the Secretaries of the Medical Society of King's College London All members are elected by ballot The subscription is half-a-guinea annually The Society annually gives prize of the value of three guineas for the best essay read before it during the Winter Session the adjudicators being the four junior Vice-Presi- dents Second Prize of the same value is also given for the best essay on subject selected by the Dean of the Medi- cal Department the adjudicators being the Dean and one of the Medical Professors selected by the Council The Inaugural Meeting of the Society will be held early in October when an address will be delivered by one of the Vice-Presidents of the Society all Students of the College are invited to attend Section XVII The Names of those mho have been efcrfidPaizEMEN onthe Leathes Endowment 1833 William Harris Leacock Edward Tweddell Atkinson 1834 Henry Lee George Redsull Carter
