9S general literature and science No one can be admitted Scholar upon this foundation under eighteen years of age and the Scholarship is tenable during four years Section VIII Founded 1857 hy George Monckton Esq of Somekeoed Hall Penk- ridge and Otheks in Memory of tie Right Honourable Sir Robert Harry Imglis Baroket Seepage 49 Regulations Two Scholarships are given every year of 50 each tenable for one Year if the Dividends on the sum invested amount to so much and if not then of such amount equally divided between the two Scholarships as the Dividends shall produce -It is earnestly hoped that additional Subscrip- tions which may yet be received will enable the Council to increase the value of these Scholarships by extending the length of their tenure II One Scholarship is awarded for the highest profi- ciency in portion or portions to be defined of Modern History together with the English Language and Literature of one of those portions and the other Scholarship for the highest proficiency in the English Language and Literature of one or more periods to be defined together with the History of England at one of those periods The papers in the re- spective subjects to be set by the Professors of those subjects III These Scholarships are open to all Matriculated Students of King's College not being Associates and $ot belonging to the Theological Department who shall have completed three and not exceeded nine Terms at the date of competition and to all Pupils who shall have been at least one year in the School
