annual report 47 grief which the Council feel in recording the loss sustained by the College in the death of three of their colleagues-The Right Honourable Sir John Patteson Life Governor whose successor the Right Honourable Sir John Taylor Coleridge has been already nominated by the remaining Life and Official Governors Dr Hawtrey Provost of Eton and the Rev Hampden Gurney The two latter vacancies it will be the duty oFthe General Court to fill up The Council trust that the Court of Proprietors will have received with as much pleasure as they have themselves experienced in sending out the Financial Statement of the past year This document shows credit balance of 7S7Ā£ Is 5d and this notwithstanding that the deduction of 2J per cent from the incomes of the College staff has not been imposed during the past year This result has mainly been produced by diminution of expenses larger perhaps than can be expected to be made in another year It having become necessary to provide an increased number of Lecture Rooms the Council during the past year have fitted up large unfinished portion of the building as Museum with the object of moving into this one room the contents of four smaller rooms now occupied for Museum purposes The cost of this work will be thrown over several years The Council close this satisfactory retrospect of the past year with the expression at once of devout thankfulness to Him without whom nothing is strong nothing is holy and of humble reliance on His continued blessing in further- ance of the efficiency the permanence and the extension of the work of Christian Education within these walls
