10 annual report The condition of the Evening Class Department of the College gives good ground for satisfaction and for hope Large as the number of Students in attendance was for the Winter Session of 1859-60 that for the Session of 1860-61 has been still greater The number attending the several classes during the past Winter Session was as follows Divinity avere attendance 175 Drawing 26 Latin 131 Chemistry 34 Greek 82 Italian 32 French 231 German 77 English 115 History 45 Mathematics 133 Arithmetic 45 Commerce 37 Mechanics 28 Physiology 34 Botany 13 Experimental Physics 18 Dutch 10 Spauish 21 Economic Science 34 Zoology 13 If will be seen from an examination of the programme that several new subjects such as Dutch Spanish Comparative Physiology Microscopic Studies and Botany have taken their place in the scheme of Classes in some cases at the request of the Students themselves in others as likely to satisfy their wants or meet their inclinations The Wednesday Evening Lectures in Divinity have lost none of their interest with the Students whether matriculated and therefore expected to attend or unmatriculated and so left to their own free choice The Class has averaged about 175 regnlar attendants and risen occasionally to 200 The interest shown in this branch of study is the more gratifying from the fact that the subject chosen for the Lec- tures of this year Bishop Butler's Analogy was one calling for more than usual labour and perseverance and presenting comparatively little to attract the superficial Student It is satisfaction to the Council to think that in this way large body of intelligent young men have been brought under the influence of the ablest and wisest of our English theologians
