118 APPLIED SCIENCES used in connexion with Constructions to check or to counter- act injurious influences upon works or upon materials or for convenience in the use of constructed works In treating of the subjects above indicated the following matters will appear incidentally and as illustrated by examples of success and of failure in known instances and as instances present themselves from time to time The Preparation by Formation and otherwise of Foundations under various circumstances The Formation and Composition of Roads as Roadways and as Railways and the construction of Retaining and Embank- ment Walls Culverts Bridges and Viaducts and in like manner in respect of Canals and Docks The constructive arrangement of Sewers upon large scale The Composition and Construction of Bridges generally The Composition and Construction of Dock and Canal and Locks and Lock Gates The constructive arrangement of Warehouses Manufac- tories and other such like heavy Buildings The constructive arrangement of Buildings of public cha- racter as Churches Halls Courts Theatres and the like The Constructive arrangement of private Buildings as Dwelling Houses according to their several uses Instructions in designing delineating specifying and laying out works ascertaining quantities estimating probable cost and superintending and directing the execution of works -The extent to which the matters above indicated can be pursued in one Session of three Terms will greatly depend upon the attention and intelligence displayed by the Students Fee for Occasional Students 21 12s 6d per term or 71 7s per annum
