annual REPORT Brought over 490 Occasional Students Medical Department Evening Classes Other Departments 10 445 56 School 511 402 Total 1403 In the foregoing enumeration no Student or Pupil though attending different classes is reckoned more than once The Theological Department continues to prepare and send forth succession of well-trained Candidates for Holy Orders In point of Theological attainments and general fitness for the sacred Ministry of the Church of England there would doubtless be some difference more or less marked between one Theological Student and another according to the age at which they enter and according to the circumstances of their early life and education but the Council have reason to believe that as general rule the place occupied in the Bishops' examinations by the Theological Associates of King's College will bear comparison with that of the Graduates of our ancient Universities and it is certain that notwithstanding the want of an Academical Degree their services are eagerly sought after and accepted by incumbents in all Dioceses and that several in recognition of their character and practical work have been presented to livings The Council hope that the time is not distant when in further recognition of the value of the Theological Depart- ment as handmaid of the Church the College may be empowered to confer the Degree of Licentiate and in the case of distinguished Students that of Bachelor in Divinity on those who obtain the Principal's Certificate The total number of certificated Students during twelve
