72 general literature and science Each Candidate for Matriculation must produce test monial of good character from his last instructor and when admitted by the Principal must subscribe his name to declaration that he will conform to all the rules and regula- tions which may from time to time be prescribed for the good government of the College under the sanction and authority of the Council Matriculated Students are required to attend regularly the College Chapel and the Divinity Lectures by the Principal and Chaplain they must wear the Academical cap and gown within the precincts of the College and they are expected to attend Lectures with perfect regularity Leave of absence can be obtained from the Principal alone and in cases of sickness or other unavoidable cause of non-attendance at the College written notice is to be sent by the parent guardian or medical attendant to the Secretary Exemption from attendance on any particular subject of Lecture can be obtained only from the Principal An appli- cation must in every case be addressed to him by the Parent or Guardian of the Student upon form to be obtained in the Secretary's Office Except by the special permission of the Principal no one is admitted Student of this Department under sixteen years of age The regular Course of Instruction in this Department carries the Student through three Academical Years Each Year con- sists of Three Terms viz Michaelmas Term from the beginning of October to the week before Christmas Lent Term from the middle of January to the week before Easter Easter Term from Easter to the end of June Pupils who have passed two years in King's College School or in one of the Schools of Union have attained the age of Sixteen and have spent at least one Term in the highest Classical Class of such School before leaving it are allowed upon their entrance to this Department to take rank with Students of the Fourth Term Personal applica- tion must be made at the time of entrance to the Secretary in order to secure this advantage
