42 annual report april 1859 as will be evident from the following incomplete list of sue- cesses at the Universities and elsewhere viz At Oxford Ingram Bywater elected Scholar of Queen's College Americo Marras י τ λ 11 ί Scholars of Lincoln College Tahourdin Albert Venn Dicey Balliol first class in Classics at final Exami- nation Millard Queen's College first class in Moderations At Cambridge MoK 'J Scholars of Corpus Christi Clayton gch01ars of Emmanuel Durst Warren Scholar of Magdalen Taylor Sizarship at St John's Summers Trinity College first class in Theological Examina- tion and Scholefield Prize in Biblical Greek Ε Thelwall נ First class in Trinity College Davies Examination Pridden 4th In the Examination for Sand- Asheord D1V9 th hurst Nassau Golding Div gained the first place in the Military Examination and his Commission without purchase In the last Report the special attention of the Court was called to the efficiency and value of Course of Lectures on some branch of Chemistry or Natural Philosophy delivered terminally by Mr Tomlinson to the Division of Modern Instruction These Lectures appear to be producing very remarkable results not only in the knowledge acquired but also with reference to intellectual character especially to the habit of composition Mr Tomlinson's system is very thorough The subjects lectured on during the last two years have been- On Heat its sources See and on the Steam Engine On the Chemical and Mechanical Properties of Water
