MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 213 subjects enumerated above and to translate in writing passages from Greek or Latin books relating to medicine The College gives no particular rules as to the details of previous education or the places at which it is to be obtained It will be obvious however from reference to the character and extent of the study above described the manner in which the examinations are conducted and the mature age of the Candi- dates as affording full time for acquiring the necessary knowledge that there will be ample security afforded to the public and the profession that none but those who have had liberal and learned education can presume with the slightest hope of success to offer themselves for approval to the Censors' Board IV ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEOXS OF ENGLAIiU Regulations of the Council respecting the Professional Education of Candidates for the Diploma of Member of the College Candidates will be required to produce the following Certificates viz Of being twenty-one years of age Of having been engaged during four years in the acquirement of professional knowledge Of having studied Practical Pharmacy during three months Of having attended Lectures on Anatomy delivered not less frequently than four times in each week during two Winter Sessions Of having performed Dissections during not less than two Winter Sessions Of having attended Lectures on Physiology delivered not less fre- quently than twice in each week during two Winter Sessions Of having attended Lectures on Surgery during two Winter Sessions Of having attended one Course of Lectures on each of the following subjects viz Chemistry Materia Medica Medicine and Midwifery Of having attended at recognised Hospital or Hospitals in the United Kingdom the Practice of Medicine and Clinical Lectures on Medicine during one Winter and one Summer Session 10 Of having attended at recognised Hospital or Hospitals in the United Kingdom the Practice of Surgery and Clinical Lectures on Surgery during three Winter and two Summer Sessions Preliminary Education -It is the intention of the Council to institute an examination or to require some equivalent evidence of the Candidate's pro- ficiency in the ordinary branches of liberal education II Members or Licentiates of any legally constituted College of Surgeons in the United Kingdom and Graduates in Surgery of any University requiring residence to obtain Degrees will be admitted for Examination on producing their Diploma Licence or Degree together with proof of being twenty-one years of age and of having been occupied at least four years in the acquirement of professional knowledge
