208 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT The second Examination takes place on the first Monday in November each year Fee £5 Certificates are required of having passed the first Examination at least two years before and having subsequently attended course of Lectures on two of the subjects named above for which the Candidate had not presented Certificates at the first Examination of having subsequently to the first Examination Dissected during six months conducted six Labours attended the Surgical Practice of recognised Hospital during twelve months and Lee- tures on Clinical Surgery attended the Medical Practice of Hospital during other twelve months and Lectures on Clinical Medicine and subsequently to the completion of this attendance on Hospital Practice of having attended to Practical Medicine in Hospital Infirmary or Dispensary during six months Certificate of Moral Character is likewise required Candidates will be examined in Physiology including comparative Anatomy General Pathology General Therapeutics Hygiene Surgery Medicine Mid- wifery Forensic Medicine And they will be required to translate passages of the Latin Pharmacopoeia into English and of the English Pharmacopoeia into Latin and to report on the cases of actual Patients Any one placed in the First Division of this Examination may go in for honours during the following week The subjects are -Physiology and Com- parative Anatomy Surgery Medicine Midwifery Scholarship of 50 per annum for two years and two gold medals of the value of each are given in each of the first three of these subjects and one gold medal of the value of in the last named subject Doctor of Medicine The Examination takes place on the fourth Monday in November each year Fee £10 Certificates are required of having-1 Taken the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine in this University or Degree in Medicine or in Surgery at some recognised University if not in the University of London they must also pro- duce Certificate of having completed their twenty-third year Of having subsequently attended to Clinical or Practical Medicine during two years in recognised Medical Institution or to Clinical or Practical Medicine during one year in recognised Medical Insiitution and of having practised his profes- sion during three years or if he has taken the Degree of in this University of having been engaged during five years in the practice of his pro- fession One year of attendance on Clinical or Practical Medicine or two years of Practice dispensed with in the case of those who at the second Examination have been placed in the First Division Of Moral Character signed by two persons of respectability Candidates shall be examined in the following subjects -Elements of Intel- lectual Philosophy Logic and Moral Philosophy Candidates who have taken Degree in Arts in this University or in any recognised University excepted Medicine and shall write Commentary on some case in Medicine Surgery or Midwifery at their own option Candidates will also be required to report on cases of actual Patients Amount of fee 10 The most distinguished Candi- date receives Certificate of Honour For the regulations relating to Students who commenced their Medical Studies in or before January 1839 and to Practitioners in Medicine or Surgery desirous of obtaining degrees in Medicine see the London University Calendar
