24 APPLIED SCIENCES Engine unless requested to do so by the Snperintendant or Foreman or in case of an accident IV The regular signal for starting or stopping the Engine will be three distinct strokes of the Bell and whenever the signal is given for stopping the Engine all Machines must immediately be thrown out of gear The same signal will be given from the Engine Room always previous to starting or stopping the Engine No Student is admitted to the Engine Room without the permission of the Superintendant and when admitted he is not to touch any of the Gauge Cocks Valves or any of the Gear belonging to the Engine or Boiler VI The stationary adjustments of the Lathes and Machines are not to be altered in any way without application to the Superintendant or Foreman VII Students must be careful in using those Tools which are provided by the College for general use to preserve them from injury and to return them to the places appointed by the Superintendant in clean state Students will be charged for any damage done or loss sustained VIII No fresh materials are to be cut off or used without previous application to the Superintendant or Foreman IX No unnecessary noise must be made and playing or throwing missiles of any kind is strictly prohibited No sawing or chiselling is allowed upon the Benches ex- cept with the use of the Bench-piece provided for that purpose XI Students must be careful in the continual preservation of their own Tools for the good condition of which they are responsible XII All Tool-Boxes are to be kept under the Benches a3 far as the space will permit XIII Students are to keep to their own work and not to walk about the shops so as to be in the way or to hinder other Students when at work XIV No Student can be admitted into the Workshops at any other hours than those mentioned in the Time Table without previous permission of the Dean of the Department as well as that of the Superintendant This sanction will only
