96 applied sciences XII Photography by Thomas Frederick Hardwich Esq Lecturer XIII Instruction in the Workshop by Timme Esq Superintendant Dean of the Department the Rev Hall Religious Instruction Lectures on some Book of the Holy Scriptures are delivered by the Chaplain every Thursday There are also examina- tions every alternate Saturday on the lectures and in Text- hooks chosen by the Principal Those for the Academical year 1858-9 are- Third Year's Students Bishop Butler's Sermons Second Bluut's Scriptural Coincidences First The Historical Books of the Old Testament These Examination Papers are accurately looked over and system of marks indicating relative merit is established At the close of the Michaelmas and Easter Terms the Students are classed according to merit and after the latter prizes are adjudged to the best Student in each year respectively Student who has obtained Divinity Prize in this or in any other Department of the College in any one year cannot again become candidate for these Prizes II Mathematics Every day Saturday excepted from 10 15-1 The subjects of the first year are -Euclid Book II III IV VI XL Algebra and Plane Trigonometry The subjects for the second year are -the Differential and Integral Calculus Conic Sections and Algebraic Geometry For the third year -the higher parts of the Differential and Integral Calculus are read and the Geometry of Three Dimensions III Natural Philosophy and Astronomy Two Courses of Lectures are given on this subject one to Students of the First Year on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11 30 the other to Students of the Second and Third Years on the same days at 10 15
