12 ANNUAL REPORT APRIL 1858 At the second examination for the Degree of the following gentlemen were distinguished Thomas Buzzard George William Lawrence Francis Edward Anstie Alfred Meadows Antony Whitford John Lumsden Propert Scholarship and Medal in Sur- gery Medal in Medicine Honours in Physiology and Com- parative Anatomy Honours in Surgery Honours in Physiology and Com- parative Anatomy as well as in Medicine Honours in Surgery as well as in Midwifery Honours in Surgery Honours in Medicine In the examination for the Degree of Dr Conway Evans one of the Assistant Physicians to King's College Hospital and Dr Henry Stevens Resident Medical Super- intendent of St Luke's Hospital were in the first division Many of the former Students of the Medical Department are now occupying positions of trust and responsibility in India some of them have shared the dangers and glories of our brave soldiers in the East and one of them Mr Edmund Darby who had done honour to the College by obtaining the first place in the competitive examination for medical appointments in the service of the East India Com- pany has lost his life after having suffered most severe domestic affliction The Council are glad to have this oppor- tunity of announcing that Mr Francis Henry Plumptre brother to the esteemed Chaplain of the College and formerly Matriculated Medical Student received in January last the appointment of Superintendant of the Sanatorium in the Bombay Presidency after having been deservedly compli- mented on his services in Persia No changes have taken place in the actual medical staff
