applied sciences 99 Physical -Crystallization Cleavage Fracture Hardness Chemical -Use of the Blow-Pipe Action of Acids &c The principal simple Minerals are next separately con- sidered and the readiest mode of distinguishing them described The Course of instruction includes minute description of all the substances entering into the composition of Rocks and of those minerals which are also used in the Arts illustrated by an extensive collection of characteristic specimens and diagrams of the principal crystalline forms &c Geology and Mining The Lectures delivered on the subject of Geology are in- tended to have especial reference to the important practical applications of that Science to Engineering Mining Architec- ture and Agriculture They are given to Students of the Second and Third Year in the Lent and Easter Terms on Wednesday and Friday morning Lent Term -Descriptive Geology Easter Term -Practical Geology in its application to Mining Engineering Architecture and Agriculture In order more fully to exemplify the applications of the Science the Professor accompanies his Class to various Mu- seums in London including the Museum of Practical Geology and the British Museum also on excursions into the Country in which the actual field-work of the Geologist is explained and illustrated There is an Examination at the close of the Course by which the progress of the Students is tested Museum is in course of formation and already possesses many very interesting and instructive series of specimens XI Engineering Workshops The Workshops have been considerably improved by the addition of Planing Machine for Metal Work and by the introduction of Steam Engine These together with the re- arrangement of the various Machines and their adaptation to the application of Steam power have greatly increased th
