MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 163 shall have performed their duties to the satisfaction of the Committee of Management and the Council during six months shall if otherwise eligible be considered as having cateris paribus claim to be elected to the office of Physicians' Assistant in preference to all Students except those who have served the office of Clinical Clerks previous to the Winter Session 1856-57 Assistant to the Physician Accoucheur -A senior pupil is selected by examination to take the charge of the Midwifery Department under the superintendence of the Physician Accoucheur The duties of the Physician Accoucheur's Assistant are as follows He shall have the immediate superintendence of all the Midwifery cases under the direction of the Physician Ac- coucheur He shall apportion the cases see that efficient arrangements are made for due attendance upon them and accompany the Students to their first cases He shall require daily report from the Students in attend- ance and himself visit at least once all the women who have been recently confined He shall keep an accurate record of the cases in tbe book send for the Physician Accoucheur in all cases of difficulty and be held' responsible for immediately reporting all cases of irregularity or neglect He shall also whenever time permits assist in making such post mortem examinations and keeping records of such cases of interest in the Department for the Diseases of Women and Children as the Physician Accoucheur may need If the Assistant to the Physician Accoucheur is by any cause prevented from attending temporarily to his duties be shall provide substitute approved by the Physician Ac- coucheur Out-Patient Dressers -There shall be twelve Out-Patient Dressers who shall serve three months under each surgeon
